Nearly 97.5% of the 13,031 students who matriculated in dental hygienist programs in 2002 and 2003 were female. In light of the favorable dental hygienist job outlook, these women are rather professionally sound.

Of the enrollees in dental hygienist programs in 2002 and 2003, minority students of dental hygiene comprised about 14.0%.
